Choosing your diamond

The Cs of Diamonds

All diamonds have distinguishing characteristics and are graded on the 4Cs – Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat.  The 4Cs are a globally accepted standard for assessing the quality of a diamond.

The 4Cs are the same for both mined and lab diamonds, as both types of diamonds are structurally identical, they manifest these same measurable characteristics.

At Diamond Lab, we proudly provide a fifth C - CHOICE: the choice between a mined diamond or a sustainable lab diamond.

selecting lab diamonds - independent grading
All Diamond Lab stones are independently graded and supplied with certification documentation.
selecting a diamond - the cut

The "Cut"

If a diamond is cut poorly, it will appear dull and affect the colour and clarity of the stone.  If cut well, it reflects and refracts light for maximum sparkle and brightness. Although not as widely mentioned, cut is regarded by many diamond experts to be the most important of the 4 C’s.
diamond colour

The "Colour"

The grade will affect the diamond’s appearance.  Diamonds are valued for their ‘white’ colour over a ‘slightly yellow’ colour.  The closer a diamond is to “colourless’ the rarer the diamond. Diamond Lab stocks diamonds in the ‘colourless or ‘near colourless’ range on the diamond colour scale (D to H colours).
selecting lab diamonds - the carat

"Carat", what is it?

A carat is the unit of measurement of a diamond rather than the size.  One carat equals 200 milligrams or 1/5 gram.  The carat weight of a diamond can differ depending on the shape of the diamond.  A diamond can have a higher carat weight without appearing larger and two diamonds can be the same carat weight but vary in size depending on cutting.   A higher carat weight does not always determine a diamond’s value, as a diamonds value is determined by its unique combination of all 4 C’s.
selecting lab diamonds - the clarity

The "Clarity"

Diamond clarity measures the purity of a stone as graded under a 10x magnification.  The clarity grade given to a diamond refers to the microscopic internal and external beauty marks (inclusions) and characteristics formed during the growth process.
lab diamonds - your choice

Your "Choice"

Our lab diamonds offer you the choice of a sustainable sparkle that is unique, stunning and everlasting. Choosing a lab diamond, you’ll enjoy a diamond that is chemically, optically and physically identical to a mined diamond but doesn’t negatively affect the world.
